About the Original Painting

Quietly Sheltered centres around a lake resting within the surrounding landscape, with grasses near the water, trees along the horizon and a wide sky above.

I have always been drawn to water within a landscape and the way our eyes seem to find it, noticing the changing surface and the colours and light reflected within it.

There are larger parts of this painting that we notice first, but there are also smaller details that gradually draw our eyes back into the landscape. I wanted to leave enough openness to look beyond the lake while still giving the water a feeling of being sheltered by the land around it.
