The Still Tide — Beneath the Surface

The tide is never truly still.
It continues its familiar rhythm, moving almost unnoticed beneath a softened sky. Gentle lines of white drift across the water as mist settles over the horizon, blurring the distance until sea and sky seem to become one.
Nothing has stopped.
Yet everything feels quieter somehow.
That was the feeling I wanted to capture when I painted The Still Tide.
Not one particular moment, but the way mist, light, water and sky come together to soften the landscape. It isn't any single element that creates the atmosphere. It is the quiet relationship between them all.
When I stand beside the sea on days like this, I feel myself begin to relax.
My thoughts lose their urgency.
My mind becomes quieter.
I can simply look at the ocean and the sky without searching for anything more.
Perhaps that is why I return to these quieter coastal moments so often. The sea doesn't need to entertain me or demand my attention. It simply continues in its own familiar rhythm.
There is a softness in that rhythm.
The gentle pull of the tide.
The horizon fading into mist.
The quiet space that opens when nothing is asking to be noticed.
That is what the title has always meant to me.
The tide itself is never still.
Yet somehow, watching it leaves me feeling still.
