Created from my original painting Where the Sky Breaks, this hardback journal features a dramatic tornado moving across a landscape, with deep storm greys, shifting light and warmer tones in the land below.
I've always been fascinated by the power of nature, particularly when the weather becomes so dramatic that it changes the appearance of everything around it. In this painting, I was drawn to the contrast between the dark, twisting storm and the light catching the rain and landscape beneath it. There is an enormous amount of movement in the sky, but there are also smaller details that become more noticeable the longer I look.
For the journal, I've kept the original painting within its frame on the front cover, surrounded by a deep charcoal background. This allows the changing greys, muted golds and lighter areas of the storm to stand out without introducing additional colours or patterns.
The charcoal continues around the spine and onto the back, which I've kept deliberately simple. I wanted the painting to remain the main feature, with the rest of the cover giving it enough space.
