Veil of Sand is an imagined landscape of sweeping dunes, distant violet mountains and a softly changing sky.
The dunes overlap as they move through the landscape, partly concealing what lies beyond them. In the distance, the mountains soften beneath the sky and a small disc of light draws the eye towards the horizon.
I wanted the landscape to have a sense of space and distance, but also uncertainty. We can look towards the mountains and imagine travelling through the dunes to reach them, yet we cannot see what lies between one rise in the sand and the next.
Warm ochres and muted earth colours move through the foreground towards lavender and deeper violet in the mountains, with blue-grey clouds crossing the paler sky above.
