Created from my original painting The Still Tide, this hardback journal uses the darker blues of the ocean and the soft movement of the water to create a simple design inspired by the sea.
In the original painting, I was interested in the quieter movement of the tide, particularly the way the surface changes as light moves across it. There are darker areas of water, small lines of white where the light catches the waves, and a horizon that becomes less distinct as the sea and sky begin to merge.
For this Midnight version of the journal, I've chosen one of the deepest colours from the painting and extended it across the upper part of the cover. The sea remains along the bottom, with the title sitting just above it, allowing the changing surface of the water to stand out against the darker background.
The midnight colour continues around the spine and onto the back, which I've kept deliberately simple. I wanted the design to retain the atmosphere of the original painting without filling the entire cover with detail.
