Created from my original painting Quietly Sheltered, this hardback journal features a landscape with a lake surrounded by gently rising land, grasses and distant trees beneath a wide, changing sky.
I've always enjoyed landscapes where there is plenty of space to look around, but where the longer you stay, the more you begin to notice. What first appears to be a quiet scene gradually reveals smaller details, from the shapes of the land and the movement of the grasses to the changing reflections on the water. It is that combination of openness and shelter that interested me when creating this painting.
For the journal cover, I've extended the muted blue-grey colours of the painting across the background, allowing the landscape to run along the lower part of the design. The darker land and water provide a gentle contrast against the lighter cover, while keeping the original artwork recognisable.
