Quietly Sheltered Art Placemat | Jennifer F

Quietly Sheltered Art Placemat

Created from my original painting Quietly Sheltered, this placemat features a landscape with a lake stretching between the surrounding land, distant trees and a wide, open sky.

When I look at this painting, my attention often moves between the larger landscape and the smaller details within it. There are the grasses along the water's edge, the trees in the distance and the subtle changes in colour across the lake. The longer I spend looking, the more I begin to notice.

For this placemat design, I've used the muted blue-grey colours of the sky above a narrower section of the landscape, keeping the lake and surrounding land visible along the lower part. I like the way the openness of the sky contrasts with the smaller details below, giving the design a sense of space while still retaining the character of the original painting.

Part of my Quiet Presence – Homeware Collection, this placemat offers another way to enjoy the artwork beyond the original painting.
