Veil of Sand Art Placemat | Jennifer F

Veil of Sand Art Placemat

Created from my original painting Veil of Sand, this placemat brings together the warm colours of a desert landscape, with overlapping sand dunes, distant violet mountains and a changing sky.

I've always been interested in landscapes where you cannot quite see what lies beyond the next rise in the land. In this painting, the dunes overlap and gradually disappear into the distance, while the mountains and the changing colours of the sky give the landscape a greater sense of scale. There is a contrast between the warmth of the sand and the cooler colours further away, which is something I particularly like about the painting.

For this placemat design, I've used sections of the original artwork to show the mountains and sky above the dunes, with a darker band between them carrying the painting's title. I like how the different colours work together, from the soft violets and muted greys to the warmer browns and sandy tones below.

Part of my Quiet Presence – Homeware Collection, this placemat offers another way to enjoy the artwork beyond the original painting.
